Aniline Dye Powder (14g, 1/2oz) (New formula)
Aniline dye powdersfor making your own wood dyes, and for mixing with lacquers to make tinted finishes.
10 different shades, each available in both alcohol and water soluble forms. Please note that alcohol- and water-soluble versions of the same colour name may not precisely match.
Following feedback on our previous aniline dyes we are introducing these for 2016 with a new, much more concentrated formula. The images for each colour show 14g of each dye dissolved in 0.5 litre and 1 litre side-by-side.
Alcohol soluble dye should be dissolved in our Shellac & Aniline Thinners, recommended between 0.5 - 1 litre per 14g pack (approximately 1-2 pints per 1/2oz pack). Stir well to ensure all powder is dissolved. Colours can be mixed to create your own shade. The resulting dye can be applied by brush, sponge or spray. Alternatively, strong solutions can be added to lacquers (such as nitrocellulose) to create a tinted finish. Alcohol-soluble dyes have a tendency to fade when exposed to sunlight.
Water soluble dye should be dissolved in hot water. We recommend 0.5 - 1 litre per 14g pack (approximately 1-2 pints per 1/2oz pack). Add the powder to the water gradually while stirring to ensure all powder dissolves. Colours can be mixed to create your own custom shades. The solution should be allowed to cool before it is used. It can be finished over with finish of your choice. Water soluble dye has better lightfastness than the alcohol soluble versions.
The alcohol versions are closest to those used on vintage guitars.
Supplied in a heat sealed inner bag and opaque lightfast resealable outer bag for maintaining quality in transit and storage.
