Water based wood dye is suitable for use on softwoods and in certain circumstances on hardwoods. It doesn't offer the lightfastness of our spirit based wood dye, but is available in strong colours and is easy and safe to both apply and store.
On figured hardwoods, for example flamed maple, waterborne wood dye can be used to emphasise the figured grain patterns, giving an almost 3D effect. Waterbased dyes raise the grain of hardwoods when applied which allows the dye to penetrate different parts of the wood to a different degree. Normally, when an even colour is wanted, this grain raising is undesirable but on figured wood the result is that some areas are dyed while others, when rubbed back, return to being bare natural undyed wood. Using our black waterborne wood dye on flamed or quilted maple like this (apply the waterborne black dye, then sand back) before applying your final see through finish (whether a tinted lacquer or coloured spirit based wood dye) brings out the deep ripples of the grain, an effect seen on many high-end guitars.
Fantasic, unstreakable* wood dye.

*Unstreakable if you're not a complete nonce. It even blends with water after it dries out.
Fantastic, richly coloured Dye. If you're looking to compare colours, the Wine Red is pretty close to Heritage Cherry after you put a clear finish on there. It's phenomenally lush, easy to apply too. Love it.

I haven't used this yet but if it is like the other products I have purchased from R & F I will not be disapointed

Really good products, great coverage and colour. Colours mix together brilliantly and give amazing results.
Would certainly purchase again.
